Discover and enjoy a portion of the Delta story in its murals

The wealth of murals in Delta, Colorado, created by local artists celebrates the heritage of this community.  Most are located along Main Street. This series is numbered in the order in which the murals were painted.

It all started in 1986 when the city was awarded funds for an urban renewal project.  A portion of these funds were set aside to begin the “mural project”.  The success of this project has led to the expansion of the Delta Public Art Committee which is currently continuing the mural project and initiating a new program for sculpture and other 3 dimensional media art in public places.

In this series of multi-caches, the coordinates given are a virtual (the mural) from which you will gather information to find the second stage which will contain the log to be signed.  The second stage has a connection to the first, perhaps only in the owners’ minds, but can you read our minds?

FIRST: The Coordinates given are NOT the site of the mural.
To find you must add 0.500 to the North and subtract 0.100 from the West coordinates.

According to p://www.deltacountyindependent.com/new/news-main/delta/1693-delta-s-historic-main-street “On Delta’s Main Street the Delta House was completed in 1890. Originally a wood frame building 25 feet wide, it soon expanded and over the years other additions were added to it. The original Delta House had a portico porch which extended over the wooden sidewalk. Many town visitors spent hours sitting on that porch observing town activity. Today, the Delta House is the oldest building in continuous use as the same business and name, though it is now an assisted living residence for a small number of Delta citizens.”

According to http://www.waymarking.com/waymarks/WM94C0_A_Piece_of_Art_Delta_CO , the artist gave the following information during interview.  This mural “simply depicts a ragged old man sitting on his favorite bench with a cup of coffee and a cigarette in hand. His name was Art Briggs, a longtime resident of Delta House and a town icon. As the painting developed, more and more people stopped by to smile at the memory of Art and tell stories of his life. With each story, my passion for the painting grew. When I reached the point where I was signing my name on the side, one last visitor walked up. He was a man with special needs and he walked right past me and stood inches from the painting. He said, ‘Hi Art. I miss you a lot buddy. I love you. Well, I'll see you tomorrow.’ As he walked away smiling, my eyes filled with tears.”

Ron Kop wrote a sketch on Arthur Jason Briggs in a blog posted February 10, 2010 which includes a copy of Art’s obituary from the Delta County Independent. I highly recommend the read. http://ronkop.blogspot.com/

I've been to this perch many times, felt every nook and cranny, questioned myself and found nothing each time. Today, I take my son by and explain how you should be able to casually relax and reach nonchalantly, and lo and behold I come up with the cache in my hand! I swear that it has not been there in the past when I searched. Glad to finally complete the series and get this awful frowny off the grid. Thanks.

This morning's mission was to do all of the mural caches in Delta (plus any others we encountered along the way). We had a great time and really enjoyed the murals even though we had a couple of DNFs. Nice hide. SL. TFTC

We came to Delta last year and decoded all of the COM series but had to come back to get to all the final spots. This is a great and creative series!
