Daily Geo Log:

Wow, this has been quite the day! This morning I dashed out the door with a pack full of swag and a ton of waypoints loaded into the trusty GPSr. Last night’s weather forecast called for a cool morning, light clouds later in the day with seasonal temperatures expected. The weatherman has been calling it pretty well the last few days so I threw on a light jacket and chose my bicycle for transportation. Usually the bike is quicker for the legs of a multi and I had several planned for the day. The forecast was ROTM and the transportation choice turned out to be both good and bad.

Upon arriving at the first WP, I discovered Leg 1 had a well-stocked supply of worksheets requiring a lot of writing but no pencil. Not a problem for me because I still had a supply left in my pack from setting out a few hides earlier in the week. Then, taking pity on the next probably-geo-pencil-less cacher, I left one before moving on.

Amazing! Each leg of every multi I did today was the same – a nice big container at each leg for the well-stocked worksheets but none of them had a pencil (!) so I left one at each. The final at each multi-cache was pretty small so I had to break a pencil in half to get it to fit. I left both halves in the cache finals so I wouldn’t have part of a pencil in my pack.

Even more amazing – it just hit me as I’m writing this – I left half my pencils at each cache plus a half! On top of that, even though I was depleting my pencil ‘cache’ at an alarming rate, I was having a great caching day! And then the ‘why-do-I-bring-that-with-me?’ cell phone rang.

Picture Charlie Brown:
“Hello?”
“Blah, blah, blah, blah…”
“But I”
“Blah, blah, blah, blah… Blah, blah, blah, blah…”
“I’m on my b”
“Blah, blah, blah, blah…”
“OK, I’m coming in.”

Turns out a muggle coming out of a convenience store saw two people across the intersection “walking in circles, picking things up and dropping them, poking at stuff, getting down on their hands and knees, climbing all over the place and in general acting REALLY strange”. When the muggle started across the street to see what was happening he was struck by a van whose driver had suffered a stroke. Accelerating instead of stopping as the muggle expected, the van knocked him down and then plowed into another car which had just… but I digress.

Today I completed three tough multi’s in record time and then got called in to work where I successfully treated all the accident victims from the intersection – see Work Log. Lucky too, I have just one pencil left to write this log! Great Geo-day!

To the N coordinates, add the following: (2(A)+2(C)+D)
From the W coordinates, subtract the following: (concatenate AB then subtract (A-B))

Where:
A is number of pencils at the start of the day
B is the number of legs in the 1st cache
C is the number of legs in the 2nd cache
D is the number of legs in the 3rd cache

Example: If X=75 & Y=8, Then XY=758 & 2(Y)=16

Please make careful note of where you find it and replace exactly in the same spot. Difficulty to find may not be rated correctly so let me know what you think after finding it.

Circled around at least 3 times, but no find.

I needed to check on Buggy to see if everything was still OK. Definately not, with all the trimming that has taken place I suspect the cache ended up in the landfill or was ground up for mulch. Poor Buggy!

A new container and log is in place though I did not have a baggy for the log.

Hopefully Buggy will survive in his new container.

Really enjoyed the puzzle. Looked for a good hour at the ground zero tree and the trees on either side, no luck. Many thanks to the CO for clarifying the mistake in my first solution. Will try again another time.

Day 8 of our epic puzzle caching and CAA expedition. Mrs GWT worked hard to solve this puzzle, so you can imagine our frustration when we reached GZ and searched and searched and searched, but just couldn't spot this elusive cache! We were about to give us, when Mrs. GWT finally spotted the well hidden cache. The coords were pretty good for us. We were thankful that we were here on a Sunday, since it is obvious (from all the trash on the ground) that this is a popular spot at certain times.

This was my 2nd time out here, first time I spent majority of it at coordinates from puzzle and after reading some say it was further away tried other places too with no luck. Today I didn't wear sunglasses and at the right angle just happened to spot it, as others say about 20 feet away. Thanks for the great puzzle and the difficult find.

Honestly, I've never been much of a fan of the "seemingly impossible" puzzle caches. BUT... I had some time to kill today, so I thought I would take some time to "tinker" with the numbers. I built a small spreadsheet, and started plugging in the calculations I could figure it out. Finally found a "logical" calculation with appropriate numbers; but didn't have much confidence since the calculations ended up being FAR easier than I had anticipated. Low and behold, the checker gave me success on my first try! (I tried to calculate this one a year ago and gave up.)
Had a little but of time on a quiet afternoon today to search for this one. Quick find, but coordinates were about 20 feet off for me. TFTC!

Second time to visit this site. I picked a better time of day to visit. Was able to do a better search. This time I was successful. Fun puzzle. TFTC SL

Thank god my dad was a math teacher (I say that quite often actually). Although, dad was probably groaning watching me fumble around with this one, before I decided to use algebra properly! I messed it up so many times that I was truly surprised when geochecker said success!

So I solved the puzzle, confirmed coordinates, but failed to find the cache. Will have to try again another time.

Finally, the third time was the charm! Thanks to a generous hint from the CO I was able to narrow my search. Unfortunately I was misled by both my GPS and Google Earth and spent way too much time searching in the wrong location (and I triple-checked my coords to make sure I had them right). With the sun and temperature dropping quickly, I decided to expand my search and give it one more minute before heading back to the car, and there it was, rather obvious in retrospect. My GPS had it 22 feet from GZ, but it never did zero out anywhere. Anyway, I really enjoyed the puzzle aspect of this cache and give it a fav!
