The Le Gault Reservoir is a little-known staple of the Broomfield water supply. It's been here for centuries, well before the permanent settlements we see here. It's amazing that the only disruption to it was when Sheridan extended north, setting the western boundary for good.

The lesser-known fact is who was behind the preservation: The Le Gault Septapus.

The first threat to Le Gault was Adolph Zang who was scoping out land for his orchards and fields. The Septapus confronted him as Zang was surveying near the reservoir, and kindly advised him to look further west. He complied without question, sympathizing with the creature.

As the founders of Broomfield looked for the perfect spot for their first neighborhood, the Septapus, again, advised that the neighborhood might be more appealing if it was closer to a junction of two highways than in his backyard, far from any major roads.

But as the city grew, the Septapus grew fearful. At first, he tried to reason with curious prospectors, as he had in the past. But the more people he had to confront, the more he turned to aggressive techniques - he thrashed at passerbys on hikes through fields by Le Gault and spun up stories of disappearances in his waters. His notoriety grew. But his first loss happened on Sheridan's northward expansion. He had known how to scare away individuals, but a team of pavers was more than he could handle. He attacked the team once, but they held their ground and the Septapus had retreat and let them finish their work.

Now, stories circulated about the wrath of the Le Gault Septapus. This had its benefits. Broomfield builders kept their developments west of Sheridan as to not anger the creature. But the Septapus didn't want the world to see him as such an angry creature. He felt isolated and knew that the future of his home was not bright if he did not make amends.

In the 90's, he heard rumors of a new master plan being drafted for the city. He set up covert meetings with sympathetic officials to try and make his case for preserving his home reservoir. The result: the establishment of the Broomfield Commons and its Open Space. A happy ending: the city got a much needed space for activities, and the Le Gault Septapus got to keep his home.

You can find him now, lurking under the pier that he agreed to have overlooking his home. He carries trinkets and accepts small treasures should they be offered to him by guests. Go say hello! He has calmed with age and the pleasure of the monument to his home. He welcomes guests with kindness now.

Had a very eventful day of cachiing with #1Beefers and GanderGoose today. After making the walk to the cache location and being greeted by mosquitos, #1 Beefers made the find. Coordinates area little off on the north but figured it out the placement from the writeup. Giving you a favorite point for the container acdewey. TFTC

Went on a fun geocaching adventure with my super cool friends, mooseyaround and #1 Beefers. Nice walk from the parking lot although once we got to GZ it was heaven for the resident mosquitos that commenced to enjoy the banquet of three humans. So glad #1 Beefers made the find of this cool cache. Gets a favorite point! Thanks for the placement, acdewey!

The day was getting warmer. I was glad for the short walk to the cache site. A fun container but the mosquitos found us.

I stopped by about a week ago, but I was with my kiddo and it had just rained. I have to laugh at ourselves, we'd had a little bit of a rough day and neither one of us felt like getting wet. I came back today, doused in DEET, and got to work. It didn't take long to make the find. I'm so sorry I didn't have the kiddo with me because she would have loved this. Thanks for the smiley!

I had been waiting for what seemed like days rather than hours for the sun to come out after making frequent trips to the patio to see if the rain had gone away from my intended destination direction, to go and get this find Nice!! Deserves a favorite. I had seen "something" right off, but my GEO sense did not kick in for whatever reason I must’ve left it on the desk along with the mosquito stopping "watch" I was going to try out. Fortunately, I had brought some bug spray in case it didn’t work. I was getting a bit frustrated, following the treads of the many for this one, and once again saw that "something" that thing I had first noticed, of course, that was it. Definitely a two ladies and gents, as usual I tried way to hard.......TFTC

FTF @ 5:25, We had just left the soccer field area after performing maintenance on one of our caches to the north of this new cache. We were leaving Mickey D's after grabbing something to drink, when Mrs. SDC phone alerted us to a new published cache in the area that was less than 2 miles away. So after getting our order, we pointed the geo-mobile towards the soccer fields since we were still very close-by. Made the short hike to GZ and had cache in hand fairly quickly. Very nice hide and container, SL,TFTC
