This is the third cache in a series highlighting the "Gold Medal" trout streams of Colorado:

Gold Medal Water - Cheesman Canyon (GC1H1EA)
Gold Medal Water - Blue River (GC1TNHN)
Gold Medal Water – Fryingpan River (GC1TNHQ)

The Fryingpan River runs from Ruedi Reservoir downstream to the town of Basalt and is world-famous for its fishing. The origin of the “Fryingpan” name is uncertain, but the most colorful story is that of a group of prospectors who fled the upper part of the drainage in fear of one group of hostile Indians only to run into another encampment, whereupon one prospector remarked that they had come “…out of the fryingpan and into the fire…”. The valley has been the home of Native American hunting parties, miners, railroaders, ranchers and recreationists since it was first explored in 1880.

The Fryingpan River (14 miles from Ruedi Dam to the confluence with the Roaring Fork River) has been designated "Gold Medal Water" by the Colorado Wildlife Commission. Please check fishing regulations and land ownership before you fish

Also feel free to fill up at the spring nearby; the locals all use it, and after a hard day fishing nothing tastes better. I hope you "cache" something!

Needed to use our best Garmin to finally pinpoint location in this valley. Beautiful fall day and a lot warmer here than up on the pass. TFTC. One muggle using the spring.

Began this geocaching trip at Turquoise Lake heading up Hagerman Pass and on to Basalt. I didn't have access to the spoiler pic so it took a little to locate. All is good with the cache. TFTF

Maintenance check - all is well! Took the trackable so it doesn’t get stuck there all winter.

Awesome cache! Out fly fishing today and caught my first fish ever fly fishing! Yay! :) Near the cache there is natural spring water coming out of a large pipe. Bring a container to fill up! This is where the locals bottle their water. Left hidden creatures yeti trackable. He wanted a cooler climate! Tftc!
