I picked this one up while in the local area during the end of the June transition month for what I called the "Freeze and Fry Run"...snivel cold at night and in the morning, sun beating hot in the afternoon. I had to go to Cortez, CO to pick up some old friends from New Jersey to act as their tour guide while enroute to DIA. Of course, I was trying to hike and pick up a few caches before they arrived. I decided to give this series a try because it looked fun, had decent D/T ratings, and was within "striking distance" after having to recover from a dead battery in my Xterra in the first half of the day. Despite some of the log entries, I really didn't think this was too intense a hike. Lucky for me, the late start was a bonus as the mountains offered shade and some much needed protection from the sun.
As I arrived at GZ, I knew my work would be cut out for me. This cache had not been found in almost four years. Hike 3 was a very tough hunt, and I had to make replacements on 2 enroute here. Knowing the CO likes sneaky hides, I tried a new strategy and starting looking in the LAST place I would expect a cache to be instead of the FIRST place. I had the cache in hand in about a minute and a half...either by luck or skill. To be honest, I did not care by which method, I just happy to make the find on this lonely cache and start my trek back down the hill since I was on a tight timeline today. I keep track of caches that are one year or more lonely for challenges. With this find, I now have (counting only 1 year or more lonely) a total of 100 years, 11 months lonely time on 52 caches from 11 North American States & Provinces. This really is a cool spur and I would love to place some additional caches farther up...but it is a bit too far for me to maintain properly. Thanks to the CO for placing this nice cache for everyone to find and bringing me to this nice area, TFTC.

The final accent was hard! My workout watch/heart rate monitor showed my heart rate at 174 bpm! But to get my name on the log and see the views was sooo worth it! TFTC/SL/TNLN
