You know what they say --- If it's worth doing, it's worth overdoing... :-) Took a little detour from my Elbert loop hike to come over here and visit this little cache. Great day to be in the mountains - Thanks for the hide!

Denali41, icezebra11 and I got this on a big loop from Echo Canyon TH to Black Cloud TH that included the celebration ceremony on Mt. Elbert for Vorticity on the occasion of his 54th 14er. Thanks to the CO for this one, as well as his other one on South Elbert, they are in excellent spots!

Hiked up the Echo Canyon Trail with kenyansherpa and icezebra11, coming over Bull Hill to get to the Flash Mob Event at the top of Colorado. We had a great day picking up a few marvelous caches, including this outstanding one. But the day's highlight was celebrating Vort's completion of the 54 Colorado 14ers at the event, and having a chance to visit with some wonderful cachers at the summit. Thanks, climbstuff, for having placed and for maintaining this excellent placement!

Denali41, Kenyansherpa, and I left the Echo Creek Trailhead at 4 am and had a great hiking day! We ascended past the Golden Fleece Mine and made the find on this cache on our way to the summit to meet Vort and all of the fellow cachers that made the climb for the Mt Elbert Flash Mob event. Thanks for the nice 13er!!

We sat by the 66rand Central Elbert cache eating our lunch. We debated adding on this cache. Initially we were not going to. But, it was so close we couldn't resist. By the time we finally got here, it didn't seem as close as it looked.
Spotted these cabins on the way down off Bull Hill

Since I got to this one from the summit of Elbert it added a whole new meaning to the phrase "uphill both ways". I probably should have left this one for another day and approached from the south but it's so hard to walk away when you can see where you need to go. It was an easy find using the spoiler pictures. I moved to the state back in 1993, and I keep saying one of these days I am going to climb Mt. Elbert...well that day finally arrived. I am not sure why I hadn't done it sooner, but I am sure something got in the way. Today I cleared the calendar and went for it. Get this, I had the entire mountain to myself, maybe that is what happens when you arrive at the summit at 7:50a on the 5th of October, and on a Tuesday to boot. Get this, the weather was amazing. After climbing Elbert, I stopped at Ernie's new cache on my way over to climb the tallest hill in the state, Bull Hill, and then on over to South Elbert. After all the extra fun, as you know, I then had to re-climb Elbert to get back to the car, since I came up from the Halfmoon TH. So thanks for the extra incentive to climb this awesome mountain. You sure know how to pick an awesome cache placement.

I was surprised to see that Ernie 66 and I were only the 5th visitors to this cache since it was placed in July 2007… gee, I wonder why? Of the four caches we did today, the one on this "hill" was my favorite. It could be because I still had a lot of energy left, but I think it was more about the solitude (no muggles for sure), and enjoying the 360 degree view while being protected from the wind by the rocks. Estes01 and I started at the Echo Canyon trailhead and went up. And up and up. Above the Golden Fleece Mine, the terrain eased up and it was like a walk in the park on a gentle, grassy slope. From Bull Hill, we went on to Mt. Elbert and South Elbert to complete the rest of the "Tour de Elbert" caches - a long but rewarding day. Thanks!

Now that was an uphill hike all the way from the trailhead. Over 3500 ft up, and some thin air at over 13700 ft, but spectacular views in all directions. I left the spoiler pictures in the jeep...dumb! I thought I was going to have to dnf, but finally found it in the most logical place. Whew, close call! The cache is in perfect condition. I signed the logsheet and put it back to rest. Thanks cirrus142!
