From the time when kids had to walk uphill both ways in a blizard to get to school, The Yuma County historical society has set out to locate & mark as many of the old country school as posible. There was hundreds of school located in thee county to ensure that no kid had to travel more than 3 miles to school
The Ditrict was formed in 1911
The schoolhouse was located on land donated by G. W. Spellman. Besides the schoolhouse there was a barn, 2 outhouses, & a coal shed and the school also had its own well. Pleasant Valley was one of the first schoolhouses north of Wray to have electricity. Electric lines were run to the Emergency Air Field located in the area and the lines went by the school so they were able to have electricity in the school.
At a special election on February 7, 1952 voted favorably for dissolution and annexation and was transferred to District 7 Laird.
The schoolhouse was sold and moved to the Alfred Brophy place where it was added onto the west end of their home.
