In the day's of yore Drake was a Mariner who relied on the magnetic compass of the era. He had to make a decision as to where to find the elusive treasure. But you have the advantage. Time and technology have made it easier for you especially since you can project waypoints. A word to the wise is to learn the ways of the old Mariners and combine it with what navigators of today Truly</> consider as a normal projection when they plot their course.
Your first step on this quest is to go West of Loveland, and on CR 43 you will find the Drake (Garden Gate) trailhead.

This trail can be used to reach the summit of the peak known as ? Crosier ?

Park your landlubbers vehicle and head up the trail for a gain of over 900 ft. and 1.6 miles. When you find the big meadow, go to the coordinates and find the big rock. This will be your epicenter for this journey.

You will now have to make a decision just like Drake did a long long time ago. Which way do I go to find the Treasure.

  1. North by West - N by W for .12 mi.
  2. Northeast by East - NE by E for .12 mi.
  3. Southeast by South - SE by S for .12 mi.
  4. West by South - W by S for .12 mi.

 Hints

BOLD is the key to the magnetic directions of yore, when there were 32 points on a compass. Look under the little tree which is Truly where it is..

I had worked out ahead of time where I believed the cache would be, thinking I had correctly deciphered the hint. I took my two youngest daughters up the trail with me with promises of marbles (of which we also found some, but not yet all), and pushed them just a bit further into the meadow. It's beautiful right now, full of yellow wildflowers. We made our way to my selected point and searched and searched but just couldn't find it. Just about ready to give up I finally laid eyes on it! Whew! I was already working out plans for when I could return again to find it. I love these backcountry geocaches, thanks for taking so much time to place and maintain them. The log and everything within is nice and dry.

Went with jmuser and chose the right direction the first time thankfully! I searched for a few and thought i may have chosen wrong, but jmuser was giving me a look that i know well, indicating that i was missing something obvious. So i looked next to where he was standing and lo and behold, i beheld the cache! Thanks jmuser for the help and for helping me figure out my waypoint projection on my device! Took nothing, left 0.20 €. This was a fantastically enjoyable cache! Tftc!

I've been to this cache location on quite a few occasions in the past as I've led Geoteering/Geotouring and CMC groups through the procedure. So today it was fun to return and to find the Final container as expected, right where it should be despite some DNFs. It was fun to make the hike up to "Drake's Meadow" again with Tahosa--we've been there together at least 3 times in the past. And the day was especially nice because of the presence of tinytuttle, animjason, Path Pacer, and my puppy Orizaba. I'm glad that I did not need to make a replacement of the Celtic Cross code that belongs in the Final stage container. All is perfect with this cache.

I teamed up with a fine caching crew of Tahosa, Denal41, Pathpacer, and Animjason on a beatiful day on Crosier Mountain, our aim was collect a few nice smileys on the day as well as a maintenance run for caches that haven't been found in awhile or had missing stages, all was pretty good with only 1 replacement stage on the day. I learned some new things with my gpsr and performed some map work on others, I even nabbed a nice smiley on " Round House" a nice cache place by Tahosa and Icezebra11 as a Beta tester. Thanks Joe for the wonderful hike! Glad to see you back at home in Colorado and looking forward to some more awesome caches on Crosier!

Always fun to find caches that haven't been logged in a long time! I saw on Facebook that Tahosa was going to be hiking this area today so I asked to tag along and was happy he said yes. Had a great time caching with friends and collecting smilies.

I was the tech guy and used my smart phone, still had fun using old fashioned paper maps for a little today as well. This was a fun one, but as was said, "little" tree LOL. Left some GWS cards.

Went up the trail today with Tahosa and a few other cachers working on some marbles and a new cache. Denali showed us all where Drake's cache was. ("Small tree" indeed!) I had to hit Wikipedia to learn about quarter winds. That's a pretty meadow, and I know I'll be back for more caching, especially when it starts getting cooler. Left a pathtag.

This is my second stop on Tahosa's Celtic Cross. I don't know if I'll ever finish it, but I'd be mad if I ended up finding them all eventually and didn't stop to write down the codes. I'll have to revisit a couple of caches on Crosier that I found a few years ago.

Despite tromping all over that meadow for an hour and a half, I couldn't find it either.

I understand "northeast" as a direction, but not sure about "north by west." As a result, no find. Beautiful spot, and did a lot of exploring!

moving on to cache two for the day (you need to read the marble's cache log) i was hoping to bag another clue to Tahosa's celtic cross. I have also been at this cache site many times and had the final location stored in my GPS. BLASTED $&# @(# (@*$ I could not find this cache. Knowing dang good and well I was at the cache site like I have been many a time before, i accepted defeat and realized the celtic cross was out of my reach today. (this journey continues over on TMC #1 son cache!!)

Tried for this one last weekend but came up empty handed. Well, after some assistance from Tahosa I figured out my error in deciphering the info on the cache page. Went back today and made the find. Thanks Tahosa! Took the Magestic Mountains TB. SL
