Elevation 8191', hike a short, safe distance (<1/4 mile)to site from parking lot. Coordinates accurate to 18' due to narrow canyon.
Attention! I note from some of the logged visits that people must not be heeding the directions for beginning the search. Some begin the hike from the falls or other landmarks near by. Ouray is located in a very steep mountainous area and at a fairly high elevation. The hike to the cache is NOT of great distance nor is it very strenuous IF you park in the Nagash picnic area described below. The Nagash picnic area is located on the road to the Amphitheater Campground. Take the wooden steps up the trail located in this small parking area.

You will come to a junction of trails. To the left you will see the stump of tree and very near it, a picnic table. Take this trail. Continue on that trail and pass between a very large diameter stump on your right and the fallen tree on your left. You are very close now. Trust your GPS receiver and follow the path (slowly, to allow GPS correction) to the second smaller white fir on your LEFT. Container is a white plastic box with snap on lid. Contains all sorts of things. Enjoy the search! You will have a beautiful view of the town of Ouray (U-RAY) Colorado.

Note: if the gate to the Amphitheater CG is closed, park vehicle in the lot at the gate and walk the road to the Nagash picnic area parking area (coordinates (N38Deg01.431 W107Deg39.817). Be aware of possible muggles above the cache site!

I was on my way back to the hotel where I am staycationing in Ouray after attempting the earthcache at the Bear Creek Falls overlook when I noticed the turnoff that would allow me to follow the directions exactly to get to this cache. Despite (or because of?) the misting rain, it was a perfect cool autumn day for a walk along this trail. TNLNSL TFTC.
The sight of these two JackoLanterns, which I might make my new FB profile pic, delighted me probably more than it should have.
Seriously, folks, the directions in the description take you right to the cache with no bushwhacking. Happy trails!

After my original plans fell through due to a closed traihead, I couldn't figure out what to do. I'm not terribly familiar with Ouray, so I decided to look at caches and see what was in the area. And this is why I cache. You brought me to a lovely overlook with lots of fun stuff in the area! Really brightened up the day :) TFTC!
