Needs maintenance

A kid-designed cache NE of Fraser. It's a one-mile hike/mountain bike/snowshoe/ski through gentle terrain.
Our 4- and 8-year-old boys sometimes don't like to "go for a hike," but they always love to "go on a treasure hunt." Geocaching is a great family outing! Our boys stuffed this ammo-box cache mainly with toys, then hid it. The trail leads through a Lodgepole forest, willow meadows and -- best for kids -- a makeshift log bridge over a creek. No big vistas, but it is kid-friendly. We've enjoyed finding caches in CO, WY and FL, but this is the first we've stashed.

Directions to trailhead:

From the Fraser stoplight on U.S. 40, drive three miles west on U.S. 40 and turn off on County Road 83 just before the railroad overpass (look for the highway signs for Devil's Thumb Resort).

After about a half-mile, turn left at the T onto County Road 84.

Continue four miles up County Road 84 (follow signs for Meadow Creek Reservoir and Indian Peaks Wilderness). Park at the big switchback, with a gate, at the sign for High Lonesome Hut (N 40 01.861, W 105 48.404). Follow the Strawberry Trail, which is a nice snowshoe and cross country ski in winter and non-technical mountain bike ride in summer (mostly uphill, but it goes for miles past the cache). Enjoy!

We were staying at the High Lonesome Hut this weekend with the Endeavour group of Australian and U.S. exchange students [and American host families] that is sponsored by the Lakewood Sister Cities organization. Stopped for a quick find on one of the trips hauling gear out from the hut.

Looking for a cache that I could snowshoe to. Plenty of snow and prefect weather. The cache is in good shape and the snow has melted around it. I'm from Maine and really enjoy this type of cache that is off the road. TFTC
