Curecanti Overlook Site can be accessed on Colorado Highway 92 from Delta, CO or Colorado Highway 50 38 miles East of Montrose, CO.

Three lakes, named for corresponding dams on the Gunnison River, form the heart of Curecanti National Recreation Area. Panoramic mesas, fjord-like lakes, and deep, steep and narrow canyons abound. Blue Mesa Lake is Colorado's largest body of water, and is the largest Kokanee Salmon fishery in the United States. Morrow Point Lake is the beginning of the Black Canyon of the Gunnison and below, Crystal Lake is the site of the Gunnison Diversion Tunnel, a National Historic Civil Engineering Landmark. Recently discovered dinosaur fossils, a 5,000 acre archeological district, a narrow gauge train, and traces of 6000 year old dwellings further enhance the offerings of Curecanti. Pretty nice spot to stop and look around. We hadn't planned on coming this way, but were running slow so skipped Crested Butte and stuck to the paved roads instead. Luckily I had cell service at (and only at) the overlook, so I was able to check for caches and grab a new county. Saw a wonderful full-arc double rainbow here while getting a bit wet. Thanks for the cache.

The last few days of our road trip that brought us from our home in Phoenix to GeoWoodstock in Fort Worth, family in St. Louis, and more family in Denver. Today we've left Denver for Montrose. This is just a stunning location. Thanks for the virtual.

Enjoyed my drive along the north rim to get to Black Canyon to camp for the night. This is a beautiful drive and this was one of my favorite stops. Information sent to the CO. Thanks for creating one of my many stops even more worthwhile with the placement of the cache.
