I was just up there today (27 May 2013). The cache is intact, the container remains a 5.56 ammo can and I added a few items to it. Although I still work around the world I maintain the cache through various means. I intend to keep it going as long as possible. Pay attention to the small cairns along the western edge of the peak.

Parked at N38 47.417 W104 54.223, the trailhead of high drive and started my trek from there. Met a few people on my way up. Got some help from people who had visited the peak before. When I got to where high drive crosses Captain Jacks Trail, I wasn't sure which trail to follow. The people I met recommended I take the trail to the right. I started at N 38 48.014 W 104 53.940. I then climbed up and up, walking counter clockwise around the peak. At N 38 48.153 W 104 53.727 I left the trail and found a new trail as I started the final 300' to the peak. Once on top, a quick trip to GZ and the prize. Signed old log and a new log as well. Took a few photos. Will post when I get home. Walked back the way I came by following the bread crumbs. It's possible I could have continued to travel counter clock wise and come back the the trailhead, but I didn't want to chance it. Took about 1 hr up and 45 minutes down. Earns a fav. TFTC

The Bride and I had weddings in Kansas City on June 21st and then another one in Omaha on June 29th. I told her I really wasn’t interested in driving to Kansas City and driving home for 9 hours and then a few days later drive all the way back same direction for 13 hours. So we decided we would take a mini vacation in between weddings and head to Colorado for a week. We rented a car, but little did we know the car was going to be a Cadillac sedan, and I’m thinking this is going to be my caching mobile for this trip.

###So over the course of the 11 days, we visited 10 states. I was able to get 5 caches that were Year 2000 including Mingo. I was able to get the oldest cache in 3 states…Kansas, Colorado and New Mexico. Colored the state of New Mexico RED and put 3940 miles on the rental car. ###

This trip started out in Kansas City as the wedding was on Friday. So we cached the morning of Friday and did the Powercat challenges near Gladstone area. Loved walking the sidewalk, we did get a downpour on us, so hoped into a local spot for lunch and then once the rains lifted we went hiking again. Then went to the wedding on Friday night. Then next day on Saturday, went caching with Gnomecat, Louinliberty and Debrajean grabbing a few caches that I had handpicked out. Was great to see my KC friends for the 2nd weekend in a row after the previous week in Indiana and by the end of this trip it will be 3 weeks in a row. Had an amazing dinner at Gnomecats and enjoyed the great hospitality.

Then on Sunday June 23 is where the journey begins. We headed towards Colorado Springs and grabbed Mingo on the way there. This day was about 9 hours of driving and grabbed a few caches in the Colorado Springs area before meeting up with friends in the afternoon.

Monday June 24 was always going to be a big day both driving and hiking. We started it off by going to Paul Barkley (2nd 2000 year cache). Got lucky as that section of the park was closed to people on Tuesday due to electric work being done. Then from there the Cadillac took us to Geocache (3rd 2000 cache). Then after that we headed to Albuquerque, New Mexico.

Tuesday June 25 we cached in Albuquerque in the morning doing a few wherigos and then headed over to the oldest cache in the state. Found the place to park and made the short hike up the hill. Then went across the way and did the Hangman hiking series. After we completed that we headed to Santa Fe to visit and then back to Colorado Springs.

Wednesday June 26th, we got up and headed off to Tarryall (4th 2000 year), those that get nervous about driving well the Cadillac made it just fine. After that we headed to Pikes Peak, it opened late because the car race practice was that morning. We drove up to mile 16 and then shuttle to the top because of the renovations to the new visitor center at top. After this we are now heading back East. We get to Kansas and find Airakee and then spend the night in Kearney. I was able to watch on the phone Vanderbilt win the World Series…Go Vandy Boys

Thursday June 27, drive to Omaha and meet the KC crew for the 3 week in a row and we drive to Sioux Falls to get the State Bird.

Friday June 28th, finish the last 21 of the Ficks Fizzy we had left. Bad news was on 61 Gnomecat fell in the ditch and went over his head in the water. The ditch had probably 8ft of water. Then headed to Omaha and did some challenges and parted ways

Saturday June 29th, some light caching before wedding and then came home on Sunday 13.5 hour drive.

Thanks to all the hiders. Earthcaches and Virtuals have sent answers. Challenges will either have a picture or available via public profile. Was able to leave my signature pencil in a few caches. Thanks for the cache-signed log.

A high priority find for me on this trip from Denver to Atlanta. It was a beautiful day and the climb was enjoyable. The trail to the top wasn’t on my map and at one point I just went straight up. Magnificent views. Magnificent hide. Contents need some TLC. Thank you for keeping this old one alive.

Goal cache of the day! I am here from Kansas (yes, I'm a flatlander) and visiting my daughter, StephNeph, and her muggle husband. They agreed to go on this hike with me but the weather in Conifer is cold and rainy so we prepared for the worst. Fortunately, we arrived to find nice weather!! Still packed up our rain gear just in case. Today was a very busy day with LOTS of bike riders and surprisingly many motor bikes which I wouldn't have thought would be allowed here....but they are. So, the hike was beautiful but as we approached the top, I got pretty winded and took many breaks. At the summit, i was so happy to reach this goal and even happier to find the cache quickly. Picked up and dropped off a TB. Now for the hike back down. Thanks for bringing us here!!! Fav point indeed!! TFTC SL

Our family is on vacation in Colorado, and while in the area this cache was on my list to fill another Jasmer spot. We travelled up Cheyenne Canyon in the morning, arriving at the trailhead by mid-morning. The weather was sunny, clear and in the 50s, so the lot was packed with mountain bikers and hikers. We managed to find a parking spot after some challenges. My son and I then headed off toward May's Peak. The hike was beyond my wife's abilities, so she decided to stay back and catch up on her reading.

We headed up the High Drive trail and despite the elevation difference from where we live, we hiked up the main trail without getting too winded. A couple of mountain bikers passed us on the way up.

We arrived at the area between the peaks where we looked for the trail up to Mays Peak. There was one on my trail map, and we decided to try it instead of a direct uphill assault. We found a trail to the right of the main trail, but after traveling down a distance it was clearly not it. So we returned to the pass.

We soon found it. If you're going to take it, it starts at the right side of the fence. It is not clearly a trail until you hike up 200 feet or so. Then you can make out a faint trail that is not marked. I do think it was better than straight up, but it still had some steep sections that caused us to take a few breathers. (Back home we have an elevation of 800 feet; at the pass it was 7,867 feet and at the top of Mays Peak my altimeter said 8,286.) From the distance traveled and the elevation gain, it comes out to an average of 40% grade.

We arrived at the summit, where a couple was enjoying a picnic. Loved the view in all directions! We soon found the cache, and it is in really good shape. The picture frame is in pieces, but the picture of Paul is undamaged. I signed the log, and after a few pictures we headed back down.

Altogether it took us a little over an hour to hike from the parking lot to the peak, and just less than 30 minutes to come back down.

Once there, the parking lot was even worse. Cars had parked in a way that was blocking people from leaving, and 5 guys were lifting a Jeep to move it out of the way. For other cars, someone was on the way up with tow cables to forcibly move cars that were blocking people from leaving. If you park there, remember not to block anyone!

Many thanks for maintaining this old cache. It was a great trip for my son and I.

Our second big trip this year. This time more mid country hunting for the oldest caches in the states. Our trip started in Kansas City, MO and continued through Iowa, Nebraska, Kansas, Oklahoma, the most NW corner of Texas, New Mexico to culminate in Colorado. It rained all day first three days but that did not stop us to accomplish our goals and some. Colorado Springs welcomed us with the snow and below freezing temperatures. But the hunt must go on... Maggie :) and I enjoyed this beautiful country, the scenery, the animals, the food and friendly people.

The wether was iffy but we still decided to go for this old one. Like others before us we hiked the Old Road to the old parking spot and headed straight up for the cache. Pretty steep climb but slowly and surely we made it to the top. The sun came out for a min long enough to expose the near by mountains. The fog hung low. The city below us was not visible at all. We found the other container too. The story was heart touching. TFTC.

This was 1 of 2 Year 2000 caches that were primary targets for me on this trip, the other being GC19. I huffed and puffed my way up to the old High Drive parking area, took a short break finding the other nearby cache and then bumped into a suspicious looking character at the bottom of the hill leading up to the cache ToungeOut Turns out it was vorlon40 who was here seeking his first trip around the Jasmer Grid. I was still feeling a big winded and trailed him up the direct route to the cache and by the time I arrived near GZ he had already found the cache and started looking through the contents.

I didn't realize the significance of the cache name until that point, I always wondered just who Paul Barclay was, and now I finally know. A very nice tribute cache to one of our fallen heroes. Spent a bit of time at the top looking around, spotted the other memorial up there and then headed back down to the truck - time to visit GC19, after a short stop at Helen Hunt Falls. Thanks for the memorable find and for keeping this golden oldie alive all these years!

What a glorious day outside, warm with the occasional breeze to keep you cool. This was the final cache in my Jasmer challenge and it was definitely a workout to get here. High Drive was a nice walk before the straight and steep uphill climb. I was surprised that there was no trail to the top and also surprised that I had the mountain and GZ all to myself. Once I left High Drive, I never saw another soul. A truly fantastic memorial to a great man lost in the prime of his life. Thanks for placing this and to all who have left photos and memories so that we can share in his life.

Word of advice if your going for this one the best way to get here is to follow the Four Paws cache parking and keep going all the way to the top. High Trail will then take you to about 0.2 miles but it is straight up from there. On top you will find a great view. Copies of all the old logs. Also off to the side is a memorial marker bag with some ashes of a man that died two years ago, I think it was a neat marker/memorial. The cache was well worth the hike and a great accomplishment to find a 2000 cache

MPLC

Our English is not perfect, we use Google Translate to help us ...

Our journey began last August 22 and will take us to visit twelve US states and two Canadian provinces ... Our departure was from Baie-Comeau, a city on the North Shore of Quebec and then continue for a few days in Quebec City where we did some Geocaching .... Then we stopped at St-Eustache and Ville de Laval, still in Quebec, and then flew to Portland, Oregon... We made stop in Umatilla on August 28 still in Oregon, August 29 in Boise, Idaho, August 30 in Twin Falls and August 31st we are in Salt Lake City for two days... The 2nd of september we were in Rock Springs. Wyoming and the september 3 the road brought us to Laramie, Wyoming... Today will be our second and final day in the Colorado Springs area

Throughout the trip we have targeted some caches that will help us achieve our personal goals and we will certainly discover new places that Geocachers here will want us to discover ... We have been planning this trip for several months and know we will not be able to not all see for lack of time ... There are many caches but we must close our eyes can not find them all ... But it is with pleasure that we will put our signature on some of them ...

Thank you for creating these caches that add smiles to our profile and make us have a good time regardless of the mood of Mother Nature ... Our log will be the same for the whole day and if there is a particularity we will add it at the beginning of the text ... Favorites will be added here and there for all the work done ... TFTC

So this was something..
On our last day in Denver, RuhigBrauner and me planned to get this old cache (only three older ones in New Zealand, Ireland and Hawaii found so far).

We walked up High Drive and didn't really know where to go when the road ended.
I'm not sure which path I should have taken but I know that the "path" I chose was not T3.5.
I followed the trail for a few meters until I was closest to GZ. Here I just went uphill (and left RuhigBrauner there).
From car to cache was just over an hour, from GZ back to the trail took me 15min.

Fourth oldest cache and the third highest so far. Worth it.

Colorado Road Trip!

Headed out for a long weekend road trip with a small number of hand picked caches. I headed south to Topeka and then to Colorado Springs, next to Cheyenne and Rapid City before heading home. I camped most of the way when I could find campgrounds. The scenery was incredible and the hikes in the mountains worth the trip. All these caches made the trip worth every minute!

What can I say here? This was the first cache on the day after my long road trip. I was up here last night looking for the parking area with a few locals that were showing me around. What an incredible place! I parked away from the falling rocks and grabbed my gear. I planed to get to the top of Mays Peak just as the sun was coming up and enjoy it. I hiked up the old road and found the old parking area just under Mays Peak. I looked around for the trail up and decided to just go up. I followed one of the water ways all the way to the top and popped out right next to the cache.

I planned well and the sun was just coming up over Kansas. I could see all the wind towers right at the horizon, it was crystal clear and you could see until the earth drops off. Later in the day the smoke from California started to fill the mountains back up. I did just what I thought and hung out for a while just enjoying the views. I had the whole place to myself. I really appreciate the CO keeping this one here. This is just the beginning of my Colorado vacation. I have many more hikes planned in the next few days. Thanks for a great first one!

Thanks FrontRanger for the cache!

This was the most difficult cache for us to hike to this trip. We hail from the Seattle area and aren't used to the high elevation. Breathing is more difficult even 50 feet from the car, let alone a mile and a half uphill! The parking lot held about 10 cars when we arrived at 7 am and contained probably 50 when we arrived back to the car 2,5 hours later, also the temperature had risen nearly 20 degrees during our trek. When you get to the parking area you have the choice of three trails and we guessed correctly at the middle one. there's about a mile of well manicured wide trail before you arrive at the trailhead 665. then the trail narrows and when we reached the last tenth from GZ we turned right on a trail heading UP. The last 500' was brutal to say the least, but when we got to the top I really felt like I'd accomplished something! I could see that on a clear day the views would be amazing, but when we reached the top it was really hazy from the local range fires. It took us an hour and a half to reach the top and nearly an hour to get back down. We were beat! Favorite point from me for sure!

July 16th, Strait Cash and I headed out on a new caching adventure. Finding oldies in Pennsylvania, Michigan, Utah and Colorado. At the end of the trip, we were able to sign the log on 7 of the 9 oldies we searched for. We got to within 5 miles of GC7C Beaver Springs, but were turned around by a Sheriff due to an active range fire in the area. Some days it was 102 degrees and some days, at high elevations and rain, it was only 50 degrees. We found some virtuals and favorited caches and had a ton of fun. A big thank you to all the CO's in the area for maintaining these great caches!

Wandering around for a few days finding new states/counties, oldies, and finishing a few challenges. Doing this on a 95 degree day....sure why not. A nice walk up High Drive with great view. A slow and steady ascent. The last 200 feet took me forever. The altitude is real. All worth it for the 360 view up top. Had already finished my Jasmer but cant resist the original caches. Thanks!

Found it 07/03/2018 By NDOkie
This is another where do I begin log entries....
This was the final cache I needed to complete my Jasmer grid. Let's just say a lot of time and travel expense went into a few of these year 2000 finds while others were completely serendipitous (Mingo was one that just happened!)
First thing in the morning I visited Tarryall. I managed to make that a real adventure by itself. That left only "Paul Barclay Stash" as the goal for this trip.
I did a bit of research before heading out this direction. One thing I discovered with my research (GPSFileDepot is a wonderful resource) was a trail that intentionally heads for the summit. The only problem was finding that trail in the real world. It does not seem to get much use.
Initially, I followed the trail that parallels the road but did not match my trail on the GPS so I backtracked and started again. The second time I followed a trail along the south perimeter that also did not seem to follow my desired path so back I go (I managed to add about half a mile of hike to the journey by doing so but going straight up the mountain looked like no fun!).
The third time is the charm as they say. There is no distinct path up the mountain but rather several washed out areas that could be paths. I followed my GPS map trail upward about 100 yards before finding the trail. From there it was a matter of "keep going". The air was still thin enough that the combination of exertion and altitude were taxing. My intermediate goals got shorter and shorter the farther up I went, but this cache find was going to happen!. Despite my extracurricular side hikes, rest stops, and conversation with a couple of mountain biker at the upper lot (those guys are impressive), I was still very surprised to see I went from parking lot to summit in about 90 minutes. My return journey was less than 40 minutes! Gravity can be a good thing!
I spent 20 minutes or so at the summit reflecting on the completion of the Jasmer, the completion of this summit hike, and the serenity of the mountain itself. Somehow, this cache reinforces my notion that a lot of caches are a waste of time. The caches that create an interesting journey, a twist at the final, a tortuous puzzle, or finalize with an ingenious gadget contraption make the game worth playing. Many folks say it is not about the numbers, but anyone that has played the game for a long time ultimately have their version of the "numbers" that drives them. Those numbers include DT loops, total cache finds, interesting destinations/journeys, or any/all of the above. These things plus the all too often "waste of time" caches keep me interested in playing month after month and year after year.
Keeping this cache alive simply reinforces my belief that the best caches are the ones worth working for.
