Native American Tribes series.

Walapai

The have lived along the Colorado and the Grand Canyon for centuries. The Walapai  are descendants of the "Pai," whose earliest physical remains have been found along the Willow Beach bank near the Hoover Dam, dating back as early as A.D. 600. Traditional hunters and gatherers, they were first discovered by Spanish explorers in the 1500's. From 1865-1868, the Walapai were involved in the Walapai  War, as a result of encroaching settlers upon their lands. The Walapai  Reservation was established by an executive order in 1883, when the tribe numbered around 700. Today, the Walapai live on a reservation encompassing a million acres along 108 miles of the Colorado River and the Grand Canyon. Their tribal capital is located at Peach Springs, Arizona, with a total population of some 1,600 members. Their economy is based on tourism, river-rafting, cattle-ranching, hunting expeditions, and timber-cutting, as well as crafting of traditional and modern folk arts.

Seems like the cache would be easily located, but we have up after about 15 minutes of searching.

It was my mom's birthday today, and she wanted to go geocaching for the day! It was a bit cold today with the rain and wind, but we managed to get 46 of our 56 cache goal. We had to get the last 10 the next day. TFTC!

Cache: 35 / 56

After making a fast find at GZ with my dear sister (beluga_squad), we took a moment to admire the nearby community garden. I do a lot of work on projects pertaining to food issues and gardening in my current hometown near Fargo including Food of the North, and the Little Free Garden project, so I always enjoy seeing what other places are doing to build community around food.

Thanks for placing this cache - and ultimately, this nice series, as it was a huge help in allowing us to break our previous record for the best day of geocaching!

Just a couple cars here today. Nothing urgent going on is a good thing. TFTC

This one could also be called "where the sidewalk ends." I'm sure in the next ten years this sidewalk won't end here, as there is a lot of development up here. Good camo on this one, and cache is in very good condition. This is #6 for me in the Native American Tribe series. I have visited this tribe's homeland. The Hoover Dam (aka Boulder Dam) is an architectural wonder, plus they have the best dam tour in the world.

Spent another half day geocaching in the area. A little warm but, fun just the same. Thanks to all the CO's that made this possible.
