This is the third in a series of Code66 caches. The cache is not at the listed coordinates. Solve the puzzle to find the cache.

Many of you will recognize the coordinates as a trailhead parking lot in the Monument Fire Center. Although the cache isn't there, it may be a good place to park once you solve this puzzle.

Looks like another code, doesn't it? Could it be a Caesar cipher? Perhaps a Column Transposition cipher? No, none of those.

At various Geocaching events, a few oldtimers have reminisced about the Vigenere cipher and archived caches that used them. A couple of puzzle caches that use a Vigenere cipher have been published around the region over the past year, but since there is such a fondness for this type of cipher, here is one in the Code66 series.

As is typical for this series, we have hidden a small decon container either in the forest, in a meadow, or on the plains. Is it on the nearby ridges? In the bushes? Is it next to a cactus or amidst the yuccas? Is it guarded by snakes or a spider? Solve the puzzle and locate the cache to answer these questions.

 Hints

Yes, it's a simple Vigenere cipher. Really. Will it help to tell you that the keyword you need to decode the clue is six letters and is on this page?

Woot! My last find of the evening walkabout. The cache is in good shape and in an excellent spot. Did a little CITO on the way back out.

Solved this one a while ago; fun puzzle! I went around in circles for a while but finally figured it out. Nice little hike on a cloudy day. TFTC.

I've had this solved for so long, and finally decided it was time to get a few puzzles in this area! Found it on my way back up to college for the semester. Thanks for the great cache! The container is in great shape!

I solved this one quite a while ago, and it was the origin of my desire to go caching in the area today. Looking through my list of solved puzzles, this one was right near the top, meaning I solved it WAY back when. So today I got both 66B and here got 66C -- still working on the puzzle for 66A. Stamped the log and was on my way. TFTC !

I don't know why I've not tried to solve this more earnestly before but there are some new websites out there now that I think make some of these puzzles solvable for us, the puzzle challenged. I got what I hoped was a correct answer. I made the ride all the way around Mt. Herman picking up a couple of other puzzles and a few regular caches near the Balanced Rock 4WD road. With the loss of daylight savings, I wasn't sure if I could make it down to this cache too from where I was parked with the trailer, but it was so close that I went for it. I always forget about the private homes that puts me on the paved part of Mt. Herman Rd. but we made it all the way to GZ & eureka! I spotted the container before I had even gotten off my horse. Time saved which was good because it was full dark by the time I got the twisting turning approx. 2 trail miles back to the parking lot.

Colorado days do not get any better than this! Gorgeous, cool, sunny, with the beginning of fall colors. Thanks for making sure we could solve this puzzle--ha! The cache was ready and waiting and we picked up a TB to move along its destination. SL

Found the unguarded cache deep in the trees bordering the meadow at the crest of the ridgeline, on a sunny plains day. Or none of the above. TFTC
