Bring a writing instrument !!! The cache is not at the coordinates listed above, which are for the entrance to the Patty Jewett Golf Course. The cache is close to that point, but you will need to solve the simple Harry Potter themed puzzle below to decipher the coordinates of the cache location.

Update March 7, 2011: container is now a micro. Camo bison tube -- BYOP.

Cache was muggled in November 2010. I have reworked the puzzle slightly, as the location has changed by a very short distance.

If you like Harry Potter or have a little wizard that can help you with some simple clues related to the J.K. Rowling series of books and movies, you will enjoy this simple, kid-friendly puzzle cache. If you know nothing about Harry Potter, just about any youngster will be able to help you out.

All clues use the common "letter equals a number" system, where A=1, B=2, C=3, etc. For example, if the clue is: A: Our hero's last name is Potter; his first name has 5 letters. The position (in the alphabet) of the first letter is A.
Answer: His first name is Harry, and the first letter is H, which is the 8th letter of the alphabet, so the number you are looking for is 8.

So let's get started!

The latitude of the cache is North AB degrees, CD.EFG minutes

A: Harry and his friends live in Gryffindor house; the name of one of the other four houses starts with the letter R, and has 9 letters. The position of the sixth letter is A.

G: On the first day of school, new students are assigned to a house. Which house they go to is determined by the Sorting _____. The position of the first letter of the missing word is G.

The longitude of the cache is West HIJ degrees, KL.MNO minutes.

H: Harry has an arch-enemy classmate named Draco. The position of the second letter of Draco's last name is H.

I: There is an extremely evil character "who should not be named". "You know who" this is! He is a Lord, and the position of the last letter of his name in the alphabet has TWO digits. The second of the two digits is I.

J: In London, Harry lives with his aunt, uncle and cousin Dudley on Privet _____. The position of the first letter of the missing word is J.

K: Harry and his friends occasionally meet and talk at the Leaky _____. The position of the fifth letter of the 8 letter missing word is K.

L: Everyone at the school loves playing or watching a very popular game played on a large field, where the players try to catch the "Snitch". The name of the game is _____. The position of the last letter of the missing word is L.

M: Harry has a good friend named Hermione, whose last name has 7 letters. The position of the sixth letter of Hermione's last name is M.

N: The Triwizard Tournament takes place in the book and movie titled "Harry Potter and the _____ of Fire". The position of the first letter of the missing word is N.

O: Harry and his friends have to be careful around non-wizards, known as _____. Geocachers also have to be careful not to get spotted by _____! (Same word) Add the alphabetical positions of the first and third letters of the missing word to get a two digit number. The second digit of this two digit number is O.

Many thanks to cacher Pohka for letting us know that due to construction, stage 1 of this multi is no longer available. We will get to the location as soon as we can, rework the puzzle, and reactivate this one hopefully within a week or two.

Out and about caching with the most lovable geocacher in the known universe: herndonrd. As we were searching for virtual and other non-traditional caches today, we could not resist getting your puzzle as well. I was able to solve it without googling, which says something about both my memory and my taste in literature. I was especially eager to get this one because I insanely signed a challenge that requires me to find a puzzle cache on every calendar day of the year. Since I had yet to find one on September 25th, it was critical that we locate this one.

For once herndonrd looked in all the wrong places and I made the find. After we did the whole sign and replace thing we celebrated our victory by getting back into the car and driving to another cache. Thanks for the fun puzzle and for your contribution to a great day of caching.

P. S. No creatures (including humans, ghosts, boggarts or PayMeCache) were harmed in the writing of this log.

Out caching with FeartheFish. Roadtrip to CS for some Jasmer squares, virtuals and earthcaches and picked up a few others. TFTC!

Solved the puzzle with lots of help from my BFF Google. Saw the cache but couldn't reach it, had to use my magic height extender. Thanks for hiding this cache.

I had solved this one a while ago despite not knowing anything about Harry Potter. I came by this evening to sign the log. I had to pretend to take pictures so I could wait out some passing muggles. TFTC.

We cached our way to the Colorado Springs area with several goals in mind. First there were three events that we wanted to attend during the weekend. We also wanted to work on our Planetary Pursuit points to earn the 10 souvenirs that are available. Next we wanted to get the new gorgeous GCCO coin, and finally we are working towards our 40,000 find BigSmile. Nice hide, SL

We replaced numerous caches that had numerous DNF's along with log and or containers that needed maintenance. There was also a nano container that we had to replace because we dropped the bottom of container and could not find it.

Day two of our weekend in Colorado Springs started with another early day even though we only had 32 caches left on our list. Again we encountered numerous caches with numerous DNF's and cache owners that appeared to be MIA. We replaced those caches that we knew had to be missing. There were some more difficult ones that we are just DNFing because we think they are still in place.

We did accomplish all the goals that we set for the weekend. We earned all of our Planetary Pursuit souvenirs, got our GCCO coin and hit 40,000 plus finds BigSmile. All during some beautiful spring weather, so a great weekend indeed.!!

Thank you 3 Williams Kidz for placing this cache for our enjoyment.

Went on a puzzle run after the coin event to score points for the Planetary Pursuit. Thanks for placing this puzzle! I LOVE Harry Potter!! The night I solved this, I was exhausted and had some funny math going on, but it worked out in the end. I was expecting the container to be a themed object, but a smiley is a smiley :-) TFTC
