Standard ammo can in the woods that IS at the above coordinates. We placed this cache after paying our $10 fee to the US Forest Service, getting a picture taken with Smokey Bear (see attached photo), and driving into the tree cutting area of Pike National Forest to cut down our Christmas Tree for 2014. Doing so helps the overall health of the forest, and reduces the fire danger by lowering the amount of fuel for a potential wildfire.
If you are going to cut down your own tree, the map handout says that Forest Service Roads 323 and 324 are one way, and look for signs. But -- we turned right (east) onto FSR 323 from Rampart Range Road and there weren't any signs, and there were several cars going in both directions, at least as far as where we parked at N 39 05.723 W 105 01.223 The cache is about 30 feet northeast from where we cut down our Christmas Tree. Our tree was at N 39 05.763 W 105 01.167 and we placed a wooden stake right where our tree was -- see another attached photo. Our daughter Erikka named the cache, picked out the tree, and cut down the tree. Once home, she did all the tree decorating and hanging the lights on it, except for the snowflake on the top -- which she couldn't reach. Maybe she can do that next year!
CONGRATULATIONS to hartsdale for FTF !!!
