This cache is
located at about 11,500 feet on a small knoll affording a
360-degree view of the surrounding country. Unlike the healthy
green forest at its counterpart Défense de Flumer across the
saddle, all the trees near Pas
Défense de Flumer are long dead. Apparently the trees over here
didn't have that certain je ne sais quoi, the défense de
flumer that they needed to withstand the stresses of
drought.
From the cache, you can see Mason Reservoir to the north, Bison
Reservoir and Bull Park to the west, Elk and Deer Parks to the
east, the townsite of Clyde to the south, Almagre Mountain, Pikes
Peak, the Sangre de Cristo range, and some of the Collegiates. Down
the hill to the south is the old Clyde timber flume.
To reach the cache, take Old Stage Road to Road 376, north to
the parking area at N38 46.224 W105 01.120. From this point, it's
an easy hike of a little more than a mile and less than 1000 feet
elevation gain to the cache. With the right vehicle, you may be
able to drive part of the way on 376A, crossing Boehmer Creek and
Middle Beaver Creek and parking at N38 45.866 W105 01.383.
An unactivated geocoin awaits the First-to-Find.
