This is where it all started. From Cheyenne, Wyoming to the Black
Hills of South Dakota VIA Chugwater, Torrington, Lusk, NewCastle.
Begin here for your journey back in time. Imagine dusty roads,
squeaky stagecoaches, ladies in fancy dresses, and men with six
shooters hanging at their hips. This is the start of the famous
Cheyenne-Ft. Laramie-Deadwood Stagecoach Trail. Traveled for many
years in the late 1800s, the trail is now no more than a collection
of poignant historical markers. Imagine what it would be like to
travel from Cheyenne to the Black Hills 140 years ago.

Wedding Ring
In Niobrara County, there are more of the Stage monuments
caches. They are:
Mother Featherlegs (it was not a stage stop, but is on the
Stage route, near Rawhide Butte Stage Stop. The actual stage stop
is on a ranch near by, but no monument nor remains of the stop are
there >> sigh.)
Hat Creek Stage Stop (There is a marker and the building is
still standing. It is sometimes used as a ranch house and the folks
that own the property keep a good eye on the place. Pat Wade will
be glad to answer any questions you have about the place also.)
Each time I see these markers, I gain a deeper appreciation for
all of the people who worked so hard to give us the comforts we
enjoy today. Note: I found this memorial some time back and didn’t
know how to get it posted on the website. The original setting of
this memorial as you will find out was on the corner of 16th Street
and Carey Ave, part of the original town of Cheyenne. Stroll this
part of the City of Cheyenne for some old time views (yes still
parts of the old west here redesigned) of the new city. Several of
the old buildings of that time are still standing.
Just enjoy the history of this area,, NO emails required, nor logs
to fill out.
