If you find this cache, you'll note that the title on the log is 'Shoulder Blade', Well that didn't seem interesting enough when I wrote this description, so I changed it here. It's near to an installation along the road/trail from the Dolores Mission to the Dinosaur Tracks in Picketwire Canyon. You'll see the title of the cache: It's a fiberglass cast of the combined humerus and scapula of an Apatosaurus found at another location in the the Canyon. An almost complete apatosaurus was found at the 'Last Chance Quarry' several years ago.
We're giving this a 4 terrain difficulty. Access to Picketwire Canyon is on foot, bike or horse, unless you take the 4WD automobile tour offered by Comanche National Grasslands Saturdays in June-July and September-October. The trip in takes you down into Picketwire, an elevation change of about 350 ft. From the Picketwire Canyonlands trailhead, it's a 5 mile hike each way to the dino tracks, the largest track site in the world. The cache is about a mile short of the track site. If you go, do it in cooler months, bring water, bug spray and sun screen.
