On Saturday, April 25th, 1992, a group of local residents participated in a Tree Planting known as greenSprings '92. This took place on the west side of Centennial Blvd, just north of what is now a shopping center and medical offices. Historical records are hard to come by, but on the 1986 (Revised 1994) edition of the USGS Pikeview Quadrant topo map, this area is shown simply as "Gravel Pit".

Since the public record says little about this event, historians have hotly debated the purpose of the greenSprings '92 event. Two leading theories have emerged.
The first theory is that greenSprings '92 was an effort to restore the former gravel pit to a more natural state. Historians point out the use of the word "green" in the event title, and the fact that the event occurred on the first Saturday after Earth Day.
Another, slightly less popular theory is that the purpose of greenSprings '92 was to plant trees so that 30 years later, those trees would be mature enough for someone to hide a geocache in one of them.
In case the 2nd theory is correct, TeagieWeagie and I have indeed placed a geocache in one of these trees. At the posted coordinates, you will find information which should lead you on a short walk to the correct tree. Be sure to BYOP, mind the muggles, and watch for snakes in the summer when approaching the Final. Happy Geocaching!
Congratulations to hartsdale for FTF!
