I picked this one up while in the local area during the end of the June transition month for what I called the "Freeze and Fry Run"...snivel cold at night and in the morning, sun beating hot in the afternoon. I had to go to Cortez, CO to pick up some old friends from New Jersey to act as their tour guide while enroute to DIA. Of course, I was trying to hike and pick up a few caches before they arrived. I had passed on this one during a run in April 2015 because the roads to this area appeared to be closed. I was attracted to it because it had a good D/T rating and it seemed like it would be fun.

Unfortunately, I wasted allot of time driving around the trails back here trying to figure out how to get to the GZ. I missed the direct 'road' to the cache thanks to masking traffic and being mislead by the "EAST" descriptor in the cache description. The direct route to the cache is located at N38 28.235 W107 09.637 along Highway 50, almost directly south of GZ. It would have been helpful to have that location in the cache description. I eventually came at this one from the north, along the road that does run directly East of the cache...although the line of approach is either from the north (the long route I took) or south (the most direct line of approach from Highway 50). However, once again being mislead by the cache description, I dismounted and took the longer hike up; missing the "Y" intersection and road that leads almost on top of the cache from the south.

What was super accurate was the wind warning, at one point my smartphone was almost ripped from my hands while taking a picture. I have had pencils ripped from my hands like that, but never almost my phone. Winds indeed. I'm not sure if that was the original hide location, but I found the container just on the other side of the barbed wire fence. Despite the wasted time and drama, I enjoyed this cool spot and making the find on this one; TFTC.

Wooo what a hike!! Staying in a near by campground and out doing some site seeing and of course picking up some caches along with John4x4 and AZ4x4s. This higher altitude is a bit of a challenge for someone from closer to sea leavel, but still doable. Thanks for the smiley face.

My wife and I hiked from the campground across the road up the two-track until we cut off the trail to the cache. Beautiful views, but what a climb!
