The cache is NOT at the above coordinates, but that is a good spot to start your trek up the hill for this one. Take the trail, or take the “alternate” route up, and grab the cache on the way down – your choice, whichever you feel inclined to do.

Leave the trail at a switchback; you will be within about 200 feet of the cache, and there is a faint, relatively flat trail to GZ. If you are traversing steep terrain, you are on the wrong trail.

BE SURE TO WRITE DOWN THE LETTER CODE ON THE LID OF THE CONTAINER, AND IN THE FRONT OF THE LOGBOOK (SAME CODE) WHICH IS USED IN THE “CLASSIC MOVIES" FINAL CACHE which is linked below.

Welcome to the eighth Classic Movies cache by the 3 Williams Kidz geo-team. The idea is that you will have to watch the movie to get the answers to the questions below; there are one, maybe two exceptions, for trivia’s sake. Since the entire script is available – and easily “searchable” -- online, I have tried to come up with questions that you cannot answer by searching the Internet, so some of these questions are pretty obscure.

Here are all the geocaches in the Classic Movies series:

1. Casablanca

2. The Great Escape

3. The Good, the Bad and the Ugly

4. Cool Hand Luke

5. Patton

6. Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid

7. The Godfather

8. High Noon

9. The Wizard of Oz

10. Gone With the Wind

And the FINAL cache: Classic Movies FINAL cache

If you are willing to watch one of Hollywood’s finest classic movies, get the TV and video player ready, maybe pop some popcorn, and have a pen and paper ready to answer the below questions, which are NOT IN THE ORDER they are presented in the film (just one part of the difficulty rating).

The cache is located at North AB CD.EFG West HIJ KL.MNO

Latitude:

A: Will Kane (Gary Cooper) and Amy Fowler (Grace Kelly) are getting married. What time is it (not exact)? This begins the time-sensitive tone for the film, letting you know how long it will be until the noon train arrives. If 9:00 am, A=1. If 9:45 am, A=2. If 10:35 am, A=3. If 10:55 am, A=4.

B: The number of horses that Marshal Kane unties from inside the burning barn, that then run into town is B.

C: Gary Cooper and Grace Kelly are the only actors listed on the DVD cover, but her position in the opening credits isn't 1st or 2nd. Her numerical position in the credits is C.

D: Just before Kane flips a coin to the barber, the sign on the wall behind the barber tells us what other line of work he is in. If it is Complete Funeral Service, D=1. If it is Stagecoach Delivery, D=2. If it is Rooms for Rent, D=3. If it is Knives Sharpened, D=4.

E: The train finally arrives in Hadleyville. The number of the train engine is E.

F: In the church, on the wall behind the pastor, there are two candelabras with lit candles in them. It is easy to see one of the two between Kane and Mayor Henderson (Thomas Mitchell) when the congregation is debating whether to become deputies or not. The number of candles in EACH candelabra is F.

G: The station master's calendar (on the wall behind him) is a page-a-day calendar, and it is the weekend. The first digit of the day of the month in which the movie takes place is G.

Longitude:

H: Amy asks the clerk behind the front desk of the hotel if she can wait in the lobby for the noon train. He replies "Sure, lady". What newspaper is he reading? If The Chronicle, H=1. If The Gazette, H=2.

I: Why does Amy get off the train? If it is because Mrs. Ramirez convinces her to help her husband, I=8. If it is because she forgot her luggage, I=9. If it is because she hears gunfire, I=0.

J: Marshal Kane is walking through the town when a group of young boys come along pretending to shoot each other with guns, and saying "You're dead!" One of the boys bumps into the Marshal, before they all run off. The total number of young boys is J.

K: Between Pierce (Robert Wilke), Ben Miller (Sheb Wooley) and Colby (Lee van Cleef), who spend most of the movie waiting at the train station, the TOTAL number of pistols they have in gunbelts on their hips is K.

L: The train has arrived. The fuel car is directly behind the train engine, and is loaded with wood. On this car, we can see the name of the railroad. If it is Western Pacific Railroad, L=5. If it is Sierra Railroad, L=6. If it is First Transcontinental Railroad, L=7.

M: Marshal Kane doesn't have any trouble finding Mrs. Ramirez' hotel room, but Amy doesn't know which room it is. She asks the clerk behind the desk who tells her the room number, which is M.

N: Harv (Lloyd Bridges) goes into the most popular saloon in town. What is the name of the saloon? If Hadleyville Saloon, N=4. If Lucky Horseshoe, N=5. If Ramirez Saloon, N=6.

O: Marshal Kane has been shot! He falls off his horse, but manages to make it into what building? If the Hadleyville Bank, O=3. If the Barber Shop, O=6. If the Saddlery, O=9.

Hope you enjoyed the movie, and this puzzle ! If you have your solution, check it for accuracy at GeoChecker.com

FTF congratulations go to hartsdale !!! Great work getting yet another FTF on a Classic Movies cache !!!

Some trivia, from The Internet Movie Database, at www.imdb.com:

Film debut of Lee Van Cleef, who does not have a word of dialogue.

Gary Cooper had a bleeding ulcer at the time of filming.

Bill Clinton’s all-time favorite film. He watched it seventeen times during his two terms as President of the United States.

Until his death, director Fred Zinnemann fought not to have this film colorized, saying that he designed it in black and white and that it should be shown that way. He was unsuccessful, however. A colorized version was made by Republic Pictures, which acquired the film years prior, and was broadcast several times over the several cable outlets of Ted Turner, who was a heavy advocate of the process.

Grace Kelly was cast after Stanley Kramer saw her in an off-Broadway play. He arranged a meeting with her and signed her on the spot.

Gary Cooper was reluctant to do his big fight scene with Lloyd Bridges, as he was suffering from back pain at the time.

Hadleyville is the name of the town. It is never spoken but is clearly visible on the train station wall. Hadleyville was also the name of the town in Gung Ho but was placed in the northeast U.S. In the west, there is a real Hadleyville, in Oregon.

Gary Cooper didn't use a stunt double in the fight with Lloyd Bridges.

The wife of Sam, Harry Morgan's character, was named Mildred. In M*A*S*H, Morgan's character, Col. Sherman Potter, also had a wife named Mildred.

They used little to no makeup on the face of Gary Cooper, to show his lines and show how worried he was.

It took 28 days to shoot the film, after 10 days of rehearsal.

They only took between 1-3 takes per scene.

"Do Not Forsake Me, Oh, My Darlin'" was the first Oscar-winning song from a non-musical film.

Much of the film was filmed in the gold rush town of Columbia, CA. Today it is a state park right by Sonora on Highway 49.

Among other accomplishments, the film was a milestone in scoring. It introduced the idea of a theme song to be marketed separately from the movie, and to be a motif for the instrumental score throughout the movie. Tex Ritter--John Ritter's father--sang the song "Do Not Foresake Me", whose lyrics are from the point of view of the hero appealing to his new wife, Amy, to stay with him.

Though supposed to be the older man, at 45 Lon Chaney Jr. was actually five years younger than Gary Cooper.

Gary Cooper and Grace Kelly had an affair that lasted for the duration of filming.

There was some question as to the casting of Gary Cooper, since he was 50 and Grace Kelly, playing his wife, was only 21.

Sheb Wooley, who played Ben Miller, had recording success in 1958 with the novelty "The Purple People Eater"(#1 US pop).

Floyd Crosby, the film's cinematographer, is the father of David Crosby of Crosby Stills Nash & Young.

In the showdown scenes, western film trivia buffs may notice a store called "Boyd's Hardware", apparently a reference to actor William Boyd, who played "Hopalong Cassidy" on TV. The years 1951-1952 were the height of Boyd's TV career as Hopalong Cassidy.

Lee Van Cleef was originally hired to play Deputy Harvey Pell. However, the studio decided that his nose was too "hooked", which made him look like a villain, and told him to get it fixed. He refused, and Lloyd Bridges got the part. Van Cleef was given the smaller role of gunman Jack Colby, one of the Miller gang.

Gary Cooper worked on the film for three weeks in September 1951.

WOW, where has a year and a half gone? I watched this old movie with my wife on a cold snowy afternoon 2 years ago, (we actually watch all of them 2 years ago) but I didn't make it to Colorado springs from Longmont this summer to do any hiking, I had some time today and went after 2 of these that are on my list, now only 5 left to go! We really enjoyed watching the movies and this is such a great series! I am glad I made time today to go do this beautiful hike, all is well with the Cache, thank you for all the effort to put this great series together and maintain them.

We worked on solving these puzzles over the winter and we're excited to get out on the trails and find these caches. Fun hike today in some beautiful weather. Signed log and returned container as found. Thanks for this fun series!

This was our first time on the Barr Trail. Thanks for showing us this place. We were surprised how busy this place was on a Friday in December! The hint sure helped a lot. We always like finding the movie related swag in those ammo cans. Kudos to the CO. Tftc.

I solved this one years ago and just now got around to finding it after ascending the Incline for the first time. I liked the movie but my taste in westerns goes more for Clint Eastwood spaghetti westerns. I made the hunt harder than it had to be and I didn't realize til just now there was a spoiler photo. Whoops! Still, I got it in the end before bushwhacking back to the trail (I never found anything trail-like after the first few feet in). Thanks for both a fun puzzle to solve and an awesome cache - that thing is loaded to the gills with cool SWAG inside! I grabbed the trackable inside and I'll move it along quickly. Thanks, appreciate the cache! SL - Zulu
