The namesake of this cache, William Cobbett (1763-1835), was an English pamphleteer, farmer, journalist and parliamentarian.  Cobbett’s ideology has been praised by thinkers of various political persuasions, such as Matthew Arnold, Karl Marx, G. K. Chesterton, A. J. P. Taylor, Raymond Williams, E. P. Thompson and Michael Foot. Due to the controversial nature of some of his writings, he fled England at one point and took refuge in the United States, where he continued to write under the pseudonym “Peter Porcupine.” A story he wrote in 1807 coined the term “ red herring” to mean a distraction from an important issue.

Our political pundit, Peter, has placed a plethora of perplexities proximal to the prize’s position. Don’t let them deter you!

OPTIONAL: In your log entry, please share the number of red herrings you found prior to spotting the final cache.

To obtain the final coordinates, collect clues from within each of the caches in the Stanford Hills Series mini-geotour.

It was wonderful to complete this series. My first find for this series was an FTF for SHS #2 in July 2017. Through trial and error I had figured out the final location while waiting for GC7WFCR "Ford a Stream" to be published last year. Last May, I contacted the owner asking about the final cache. Every now and then I would randomly search and the final location looking for a cache that was not placed yet. It was only recently that I noticed that it had been published! Last night I gathered the scraps of paper and google photos that I had recorded the codes on. Today, during a snowy run, I set out to finish the series. Just a little bit of snow at the final location. I only found 3 of the red herrings before finding the actual cache. Excellent final to the series. It was worth the wait. Thank you for creating this series and helping to keep our recreation going. Favorite point from me.

Finally success !!! We worked hard for this one. First, had to redo some of the caches because we hadn't written down the codes. Then came and found all? (we found 4) the red herrings but no cache. Saw BCH had found it so came again yesterday but still no luck plus school got out and lots of kids. Today was the day and can't believe where it was !! Loved the red herrings. Definitely gets a favorite.

What can I say???? That was quite a challenge over several trips with a few DNFs thrown in. Back again to find the replaced caches, solve the puzzle (as much as I could) return to a couple where I missed the code, record one of the code numbers wrong so the check sum was off by one. Go to each cache hoping I had recorded it right on my personal notes (thank goodness I did & found my error) finally get to this GZ right as school had let out & full of kids. Had to wait until the coast was clear before starting my search. Found 2 red herrings right away then figured out where the cache was. Fortunately no muggles while I looked. Thanks for the challenge.

Decided to go after this one but realized we had not written down all the codes - missing 3. One was easy to find, the second one took two trips (muggles there the first time) and had to search as it had moved since we found it. The third one - which we had been in the FTF group - we couldn't find after looking two separate trips. But we figured with just one missing we could plug it in. Today we made our way over to GZ. We quickly knew we were in the right spot as we found a red herring, and then another and another and another. Four in all ! But no cache. We have racked our brains trying to interpret the hint but no luck there either. We will be back !!!

Decided to try this one with a friend after shopping at Colorado Country Christmas. We found four red herrings and finally located the sneaky final. Signed log. Thanks for the fun series and the final, which earns a fav!
