Great hike today with estes01. We decided to try hiking up the former Cog Rail tracks (now a road) instead of taking the Barr Trail. Interesting hike for sure. We thought they might not be working on a Sunday, but they were. I think it was far less than the normal workforce -- just a handful of trucks ferrying rail segments, ties, and other material to staging areas near where they will eventually be used. We met around 10 of the heavy equipment apparatus on the way up but they are loud and there is plenty of time to find a safe place to let them pass. The last one stopped to warn us that there was heavy equipment operating on the road Smile.

Back when the train was running, I'd gotten off at Mountain View a few times and hiked toward the Barr Camp area. Having to walk up added to the experience -- we didn't get the flowery spiel from the train conductor and instead had to resort to up-close-and-personal experiences with ice sculptures and wildlife sounds. Great area and a good choice for the cache spot. Thanks for the incentive to make the trek back here!

Wow it's nice to do a cache where the terrain rating is reasonable. Part of the reason I hike with ernie66 and WingsAndTales is that they climb trees. What a great spot for a cache! If you plan on hiding other caches in these high areas, could you please wait until summer. Both of my hiking partners are so happy that you keep planting these higher terrain caches, but I have to be honest...I am becoming a physical therapist's dream.

Seriously, thank you for bringing us up here. I am glad we took took the Cog Rail "road" and I would not recommend anyone else doing it this way. If you are stopped, don't speak English. It always throws them off. Favorite point for sure.

It was a nice day to get out for a long hike. I had to circle GZ a few times before I spotted it and then it took some doing to get to it. After getting it signed and replaced it was a great spot for lunch. Thanks for a reason to put trail under my feet for a good part of the day. TFTC
