8 legs find 8 legs!

My family of 4 (all 8 legs of us) set out to find some of Colorado's largest 8 legged creatures! 

Here is where we found some!

 

 

Recently I've been toying with the idea to drag the family out on an adventure involving the creepy crawly kind.  I've heard rumors that La Junta is home to our largest arachnid!  Rumors are true!!  We came out this way after some research into the yearly migration of these critters in hopes that we could spot one.  What an experience!  We each took turns holding one and letting it crawl up our arms.  Even the Wiggle (Wife Muggle) took a turn!  Even though it was cold and really windy we all stuck it out to find just the one.  He was not very far from this cache!

 

If you have a fear of spiders... paricularly large spiders...  You may want to avoid the area from late September through early October as this is the peak of their mating migration.  If you do enjoy them... Know that they are very friendly and docile creatures.  Treat them gently and they will reward you with a little snuggle!  Ha ha ha ha!

I was out with Olive this morning grabbing a few caches before the weather changes. I was really hoping to see some Tarantulas this morning but it was just to cold for them to be out. Maybe later in the day when the pavement heats up. Darn!! Stamped the log and we're off to the next one. [8d][8d] SL TFTC

FTF at 5:18 pm. Tftc! Lots of creepy crawling 8 leg monsters out. Watch the road as they are crossing this time of year! Dodged a couple on the way!
