This cache is on one of the two "blue" runs into the new A-Basin expansion, "The Beavers".

The "Beavers" opened for the 2017-2018 ski season with no lift, requiring a 20 minute hike out. A lift was installed during the summer of 2018, making the area somewhat more accessible.

Geocaching Colorado

While this run is rated Blue by Arapahoe Basin, you need to be a solid intermediate skier at minimum to safely approach and exit the cache area. If it is mogulled, hard frozen, or sun baked, it is more of a black diamond. The cache itself is about 15 yards off the trail into the "Dog Woods". Hiking in the summer would be a significant hike up and down the mountain.

The top of the container is permanently attached. Please carefully unscrew the main part to access the log.

Can't believe that almost 3 months after this cache was put out, we were still able to get a FTF... are we the only ones who love to ski to our caches? Had a fairly easy time getting to GZ, luckily it wasn't very far off the trail since the snow was really deep (A-Basin got 3' of snow the past few days). Hubby spotted it just a little bit above the snow, so he got the honor of signing the clean log. After taking a few pics we continued downhill and encountered much tougher terrain, we're used to nicely groomed runs not big moguls on a steep incline. We did manage to slowly make our way down to the chairlift, happy to have found the cache the first time because we wouldn't have wanted to do that run again. Be prepared... at least at this time of year, this was definitely not a blue run. Thanks KA&JWest for placing this cache in this new section of A-Basin, gets its first well-deserved favorite vote!

Somehow belwig, who is an expert, missed the fact that there was a FTF out there on his abbreviated A Basin day. He and slacker 4 joined me due to a power outage at Keystone. So anyway he tasked me with making the find today. I am his father and a terminal intermediate. The day he was here was a nice sunny, relatively calm and warm day. Perfect for this actually. Today was a weekend mob scene, cloudy and windy. I took Pauli up to Davis and the Beaver lift and looked over at that cold wind blow ridge knowing it would probably take two runs, the first to find the area without going too far below or across from it. I'm an old geezer from Florida and I bailed. Headed over to Zuma and cruised for my 2+ hours then headed back to the condo for lunch with my wife. I'm not a FTF guy so it doesn't upset me. I had a great run with KA&JWest's hides here at A Basin. Thanks for a great group of hides.
